rare and historically significant ₹10 banknote from British India, later adapted for Pakistan’s use immediately following the Partition in 1947. Issued by the Reserve Bank of India and printed by the India Security Press in Nasik, these notes were used in Pakistan as a temporary currency solution until the nation introduced its own banknotes. These notes were issued using a limited range of prefixes, specifically H/48 to H/72, H/83 to H/99, and J/0 to J/42, J/51 to J/58. Notably, prefixes H/73 to H/82 and J/43 to J/50 were overprinted for use by the Burma Currency Board.

What makes this issue particularly unique is the lithographed text, not a rubber overprint. The note features “GOVERNMENT OF PAKISTAN” in English and “Hukumat-e-Pakistan” in Urdu, both added to the watermark area on the front side only. These markings were lithographed directly onto the standard Indian note plates—an important distinction that highlights its official and intentional modification during a time of immense political change.

This transitional note represents a powerful numismatic link between colonial India and the newly formed Pakistan.
